Flaine International Sound and Vision Art Week 2026
Introduction
Flaine – A cultural dimension
Flaine, located at an altitude of 1700 metres, has always been dedicated to art and culture. The architecture was designed by Marcel Breuer, Bauhaus architect. We can find Picasso, Dubuffet and Vasarely sculptures, Piffaretti and Hantaï canvas, or a fountain by Pol Bury. A high quality auditorium has been built to host cultural events, offering exceptional acoustics.
The Flaine International Sound and Vision Art Week brings together music and painting in an Alpine setting, inviting participants to explore the resonance between auditory and visual forms. Building on the repertoire of Debussy, Kutnowski, and Prokofiev, the program offers a series of masterclasses, workshops, and collective experiences designed to investigate how sound can be translated into image, and how painting can embody temporal, rhythmic, and tonal qualities.
Alongside the concert program, the Art Week includes an outdoor exhibition of the competition winners’ works and a final presentation of the masterclass outcomes in the dedicated studio space provided by Flaine. In this way, the event merges public exhibition, artistic research, and cross-sensory experimentation.

Lecture Overview: Seeing Music
This masterclass explores the intimate dialogue between sound and image through the lens of music visualization. Taking classical repertoire such as Debussy’s Clair de Lune as a starting point, the session examines how musical structures, rhythms, and tonalities can be translated into visual forms.
The lecture combines historical perspectives on synesthesia and sound–color correspondences with contemporary approaches to artistic practice: how to paint sound, how to listen visually, and how to transform temporal sensations into spatial forms.
Participants are invited to engage critically with the interplay between auditory and visual perception, considering both intuitive and experimental methodologies. The aim is to open new pathways for cross-sensory creativity, bridging the act of listening with the act of painting.
